As an integral part of the LMSD Central Office Administrative team, the Contract Specialist plays a critical role in developing, coordinating, and administering all contracts for products and services, both for business and educational purposes, within the District’s organizational structure. Responsibilities are focused on contract preparation, negotiation, extension and renegotiation as appropriate, including data and document management/tracking and reporting. The Contract Specialist serves as a primary point of liaison with contractors, monitoring existing contracts for compliance with terms and conditions. In this role, the candidate should be able to work effectively and cross-functionally on a variety of projects, think practically and be solution-oriented. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to adhere to strict deadlines, while taking on additional responsibilities as assigned. Must possess strong problem-solving and time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Negotiates, establishes, and administers contractual arrangements and procurement proposals for the benefit of the District’s educational program and related services. Serves as liaison to business, technology, and solicitor’s office regarding compliance components of contract.
  • Interacts with various District internal departments, as well as community partner organizations, to satisfy their educational/business needs by identifying potential vendors and evaluating current vendors.
  • Evaluates or monitors contractor performance to determine necessity for amendments or extensions of contracts, and compliance to contractual obligations. Such evaluation includes seeking input from stakeholders including, but not limited to, department/building leadership as well as end-users such as students, teachers, and families.
  • Serves as liaison internally and externally with business, technology, and solicitor’s office regarding compliance components of contract.
  • Review and approves/rejects internal and/or contractor requests for deviations from contract specifications and delivery schedules. Continually monitors and evaluates contractor performance against contract specifications. Recommends appropriate remedial action as necessary. Handles claims or complaints occurring in performance of contracts.
  • Analyzes price proposals, financial reports, and other data to determine reasonableness of prices; reviews and interprets contract provisions to achieve cost efficiencies and reductions where feasible.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with 5 years of experience in similar roles; reviewing and negotiation contracts. Previous experience in the legal field, specifically in transactional law is a plus. Proficient in technology tools and applications. Must possess the ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.

 

This is a 12 month contracted position.
