Serving as a key District-level leader, the Director of Elementary Education will oversee a broad range of projects and programs as part of the District’s academic division. Reporting to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, and supervising Elementary Principals and Curriculum Supervisors, this position leads the ongoing development, implementation, revision and evaluation of the District’s curriculum, while ensuring effective instructional practices are occurring in the classroom through high quality professional learning, feedback, and evaluation. The Director collaborates with Curriculum Supervisors, Building Administrators, and Special Education Supervisors for effective coordination, support, and utilization of all programs to ensure cohesion and alignment of support for teachers and students as well as comprehensive articulation between programs and between schools. The Director of Elementary Education maintains open lines of communication with the school community, effectively interacting with the District’s diverse population of students, faculty, and community members.
This role requires experience in teacher training, mentoring, and coaching. Must possess exceptional organizational skills with a detailed-oriented approach to work as well as problem solving and presentation skills with the ability to plan and deliver effective professional development. Must have the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.
We are looking for candidates experience within similar roles. Previous experience in a public school district is preferred.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Directs and supports the improvement of curriculum through the continuing evaluation and revision of courses of study; the development of new courses of study, and the adoption of instructional materials.
- Reviews and revises curriculum and academic approaches to seek out new and improved methods to positively influence the learning environment.
- Reviews and, when appropriate, supports revisions to curricular frameworks to ensure curricular alignment to standards, a cycle of curriculum revision, and timely resources to support the curriculum.
- Reviews and analyzes K-12 assessment data to inform curricular decisions (short term and long term).
- Plans and coordinates the delivery of K-12 professional development to sustain a professional learning culture.
- Supervises the implementation of K-12 federal or state aid programs including but not limited to Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title IV.
- Supports K-12 district instructional and curriculum integration of technology.
- Supports, through leadership and collaboration, the work of the Instructional Support Teachers and elementary school Achievement Teams.
- Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the PDE Comprehensive Plan.
- Represents the school district in meetings and conferences related to elementary curriculum and instruction, assessment, and instructional technology.
- Makes recommendations pertaining to policy and procedure to the Superintendent.
- Plans and coordinates the budget process for the elementary curriculum budgets.
- Leads elementary principals meetings and curriculum articulation meetings.
- Participates in the interview and selection process of the K-5 instructional staff as appropriate.
- Coordinates New Teacher Induction Program, and district orientation programs and activities for K-12 new teachers and professional staff.
- Engages in the supervision process of K-5 teachers through classroom observations and conferences in collaboration with building principals.

- PA Instructional II Certificate - Required
- Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience - Required
- Elementary Principal experience - Required
- K-12 Principal Certificate – Required
- PA Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction Certificate – Preferred
This is a 12 month ongoing contracted position.
